If you are going on a road trip, it can be helpful to start a master list even weeks before you go. Jot down items as you think of them and by the time it's road trip time, all you need to do if mark off your list as you pack your items. This system is handy and takes a lot of the stress out of trying to remember to do and bring everything syndrome. Try to pack light and just bring the essentials because you want to leave some room for bringing home some souvenirs. Don't forget to bring your camera, lots of film (if it's that kind of camera) and don't miss an opportunity to take some fun shots. You can make a cool album when you get home. Plan to not only see the sights at your final destination, but along the way as well. Have fun!
