Far and above any other concern is tire pressure. Cold weather always causes a decrease in tire pressure, which causes vehicles to run at less-than-optimal rates. Low tire pressure in cold months can radically decrease fuel efficiency, and make a vehicle more susceptible to tire damage. It's very difficult to tell when a vehicle is encountering exceptional tire damage in cold weather due to low tire pressure. Inevitably, tire damage will need to be addressed.
Whether a driver is using studs, or other all-weather tires, a full season of vehicle operation requires a survey of tire safety and integrity. One horrible winter season of wear can impose terrible damage on a set of tires that is only determined by a professional tire service. This year's tires may have performed well, but equipping a vehicle with a set of tires for next year's cold weather onslaught should be a first priority. Now that spring is on the horizon, it's the perfect time to inquire about tough tires for next winter.
