2018 Ford Escape Review

Thanks to its full redesign for the 2017 model year, and a few minor changes for 2018, the Ford Escape is a sleek, modern crossover SUV with a number of new technology features, safety upgrades, and stylish accents.

Drivers in Langhorne, Philadelphia, and Newtown can learn more about the performance, design, and technology features of the 2018 Ford Escape with our in-depth model review.

Performance

The Escape is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. Other available engines include the 1.5-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder that makes 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, and the sporty, turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder that makes an incredible 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard for each, as well as front-wheel drive, and some trim levels are available in all-wheel drive.

Regardless of engine choice, drivers will experience swift, smooth acceleration and a consistent, precise transmission, but the turbo-four option is incredibly quick and athletic. Due to the Escape's advanced power distribution system, it glides seamlessly over imperfections in the road surface, and holds its own over snow-covered or slick surfaces in inclement weather.

The Ford Escape also has accurate, reliable brakes, sufficient road grip, and virtually nonexistent body roll through corners. Unlike many other SUVs, the Escape is a capable, confident ride.

Technology

The Escape is standard with the highly-intuitive Sync 3 infotainment system. With its sharp graphics and easy-to-use interface, the Sync 3 is among the top systems available, and its Apple Carplay and Android Auto smartphone integration and third-party apps enhance its capabilities and convenience.

For 2018, the Escape is equipped with many driver assistance and advanced safety features, including a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, parking assistance, automatic braking, and a driver distraction alert.

Cargo and Comfort

Practically designed for road trips, the Escape's airy interior and smooth, quiet ride make it exceptionally comfortable for extended periods of time. The well-supported seating, power-adjustability, high-quality fabric, and ample leg- and headroom elevate that comfort even further, and there's even optional heated and ventilated seating for optimal climate control.

The Escape's sizable cargo bay offers considerable space for luggage, bags, sporting equipment, or any other large or awkwardly-shaped cargo. The 60/40-split folding rear seats fold down quickly and easily for simple switches from cargo to passenger accommodations, and once folded, the cargo floor is completely flat and unobstructed. For small object storage, there are multiple bins and pockets within the vehicle. With the deep, square center console, there's also enough storage space for the driver as well.
